The Great Basin Institute seeks to hire one (1) Archive Technician to work cooperatively with Zion National Park (ZION) staff to support the Park’s museum program. The role of the Technician(s) is to process, arrange, describe, catalog, and provide access to archival collections according to NPS museum and records management policies and procedures. Additionally, the Archive Technician(s) assists the Museum Curator with broader museum tasks, including annual inventories, cataloging museum specimens, and rehousing collections. Lastly, the Technician(s) will utilize the Department of the Interior's automated cataloging system and procedures to catalog and manage museum and archive collections.

Full-time, 40 hours per week
Zion National Park is located in southwestern Utah. The climate is generally HOT with daytime temperatures averaging 100 in the summer and 55 in the winter. Nighttime lows range from 85 in the summer to 30 in the winter. Minimal shopping is available in Springdale, Utah located (2) miles from Park Headquarters. Full range of shopping, medical, dental, religious and recreational facilities are available in Hurricane (25 miles), St. George (45 miles) and in Cedar City, Utah (63 miles). Bachelor's degree focused on archive studies or a closely related field field – applicants with advanced degrees encouraged to apply;
Experience in archives management to include appraisal, arranging & describing, processing, cataloging, research, preservation, and housing of collections;
Experience with supervision and training of interns and/or volunteers;
Ability to work with minimal direct supervision;
Self-motivated and detail-oriented, possessing strong organizational skills to effectively plan and complete assigned workload within defined timelines;
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse audience including co-workers, members of the pubic, and agency personnel;
Intermediate or higher skill using Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel, with ability to manually enter, manage, manipulate, and graphically display data;
Flexibility to handle competing and changing priorities with a positive attitude;
Ability to work productively, consistently, and cooperatively independently or as part of a team to accomplish mutual goals;
Possess a clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license; and
Ability to complete activities including prolonged periods of deskwork, lifting and moving of heavy items weighing 50 pounds or more, regularly walk and drive between curation and other facilities.
