The Great Basin Institute seeks to hire one (1) Archivist to work cooperatively with Bryce Canyon National Park (BRCA) and Zion National Park (ZION) staff to support the Park’s archives program. The role of the Archivist is to provide archives management including processing and cataloging of archives, understanding archive appraisal and arrangement and description. The Archivist will supervise one 12 week archives intern. Additionally, the archivist will assist the Zion Museum program with other duties as assigned such as environmental monitoring, housekeeping, and annual inventory.
Shared government housing is available to the employee until April in Bryce National Park; after which time employee may need to relocate to the Zion/Springdale

Bryce Canyon National Park, established in 1928 is located in southwestern Utah. The park is famous for its globally unique geology, consisting of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. In addition, to Bryce Canyon's hiking, camping, photography, horseback riding and extraordinary star-gazing, recreation opportunities abound outside the park. Because of the high elevation (6,000-9,000 feet above sea level) summers are relatively mild with daytime temperatures rarely surpassing 90 degrees. Nighttime temperatures are cool (upper 40's to low 50's). Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August. Mean daily winter temperatures range from 40 degrees (day) to 10 degrees (night). Snow can be abundant during winter storms. Small grocery stores, restaurant, service stations, a church and K-12 school are located in Tropic (15 miles) with bus service provided. The nearest medical facilities are in Panguitch (28 miles). More extensive services and amenities can be found in Cedar City (80 miles). Educational experience with a minimum of a Master’s degree focused on archives studies or a closely related field;
Experience in archives management to include appraisal, arranging & describing, processing, cataloging, research, preservation, and housing of collections;
Experience with supervision and training of interns and/or volunteers;
Ability to work with minimal direct supervision;
Self-motivated and detail-oriented, possessing strong organizational skills to effectively plan and complete assigned workload within defined timelines;
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse audience including co-workers, members of the pubic, and agency personnel;
Intermediate or higher skill using cataloging databases, Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel, with ability to manually enter, manage, manipulate, and graphically display data;
Flexibility to handle competing and changing priorities with a positive attitude;
Ability to work productively, consistently, and cooperatively independently or as part of a team to accomplish mutual goals;
Possess a clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license; and
Ability to complete activities including prolonged periods of deskwork, lifting and moving of heavy items weighing 50 pounds or more, regularly walk and drive between curation and other facilities.
