The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Section is seeking to hire a full time (40 hours per week) Climate and Energy AmeriCorps VISTA position for a year-long term beginning in August 2018. The individual will develop climate and energy programming within the Flagstaff community to engage underrepresented youth in STEM fields.

Develop a Climate Ambassadors program to engage volunteers in climate action in Flagstaff; train Ambassadors to work with fellow community members on climate.
Build relationships with educational program staff, parents and partners.
Manage a Student Climate Action Challenge, encouraging Flagstaff students to develop climate action projects in their schools or neighborhoods.
Collaborate with school staff and parent/community manager to recruit students from underrepresented groups for STEM and climate action programs.
Support the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan public and student outreach efforts.
Manage Home Energy Efficiency Workshops to teach families about saving energy.
Recruitment, evaluation, research, and outreach to support these activities.
Applicants should have a background in sustainability, education, environmental or climate science, and/or communications. Applicants must have a strong interest in working with the public, partner coordination, and youth engagement. Effective and careful written and oral communication skills are critical. Applicants must be able to take initiative, work independently on multiple projects in an office setting, and meet deadlines. Experience with education or outreach preferred.
One year of experience in sustainability education and/or outreach practices. One year project coordination experience. This is an AmeriCorps VISTA position with standard work hours, although some evening and weekend work may be required.
The Flagstaff STEM Education VISTA Project seeks to increase the academic performance and interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) of youth currently underrepresented in STEM fields. We are recruiting for several AmeriCorps VISTA positions to serve with Flagstaff non-profits, schools, and institutions.
