Nature of Work
Are you interested in becoming a Youth Leader in your community? Youth Leaders in Action is a NEW summer program for youth ages 16-18 who are interested in developing career and leadership skills. Participants must be available Monday through Thursday for three weeks, July 9 through July 26, 2018.
This is an exciting leadership program that places students directly in Coconino County departments to utilize and develop skills of leadership, innovation, essential employment skills, and experience how Coconino County employees work together for success. Participants in the program will be immersed in work environments and attend leadership workshops where they will identify and implement the leadership skills they learn. As a participant in Youth Leaders in Action, youth can earn up to 9-hours of leadership training and 27-hours of on the job experiences which can be used on employment, higher education, and scholarship applications.
Work hours will be Monday, 1:00-4:00pm and Tuesday through Thursday, participants will choose to work in assigned department, either 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00-4:00pm.
A final session will be held on July 26, 2018 from 4:30 pm-5:30 pm where participants will step up and share their leadership journey. Invitees to the final session will include participants, supervisors, departments, parents/families and the Coconino County Board of Supervisors.
Participants will participate in leadership training workshops each Monday at the Coconino Career Center with County leadership and the Youth Leaders in Action Program Coordinator. Each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, youth will be placed in Coconino County departments to utilize and develop leadership, innovation, teamwork and a multitude of skills learned in workshops.
-Strong work ethic with a good attitude and willingness to learn.
-Available the entire three weeks of the selected program session.
-Must have a form of transportation to and from all work hours and leadership classes.
